What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX is synthesized from the botulinum toxin, a paralytic that is heavily diluted to be used locally. This product of this bacteria can be injected into muscles on the face, causing them to hold still.
This is useful for removing fine lines on the face that come from the movement of muscles. Various facial expressions can contribute to visible aging, and by paralyzing certain parts of the face, we can stop the development of these changes.
These changes take anywhere from five to ten days to take effect, and each injection lasts for between three and six months.
Who is a Good Candidate for BOTOX®?
When you come to a dentist, you probably spend a lot of time talking about how your smile frames your face. However, you might be too distracted by wrinkles to make a fair evaluation. This is where BOTOX can be useful—for patients in their late 20s or older who want to address the prevalence of wrinkles.
There are all kinds of wrinkles that BOTOX can address:
- Forehead Lines: Horizontal lines that appear across the forehead.
- Glabellar Lines: Vertical lines between the eyebrows, also known as "frown lines" or "11 lines."
- Crow's Feet: Fine lines that form around the outer corners of the eyes.
- Bunny Lines: Wrinkles that appear on the sides of the nose when you smile.
- Lip Lines: Vertical lines around the mouth, often referred to as "smoker's lines."
- Chin Dimples: Wrinkles or dimples on the chin, sometimes called "orange peel" or "pebbled" chin.
- Marionette Lines: Lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin.
- Neck Bands: Horizontal lines or bands on the neck, also known as "necklace lines."
The Benefits of BOTOX®
BOTOX is sometimes referred to as a “lunchtime facelift.” You can see serious results after just one appointment, generally somewhere between 20 minutes and an hour. While these effects are certainly noticeable, they don’t look “fake” or give someone the appearance of “having had work done.”
There’s no need for surgery or recovery—just a couple of injections that can be completed on your schedule.
Why See a Dentist for BOTOX?
Dentists obviously know a lot about your teeth, but as a part of learning about oral health we also study the interactions of the muscles in the face. We also have a lot of experience administering painless injections, making BOTOX a natural fit for a dentist to administer.
Moreover, most people see a dentist a bit more often than they see a plastic surgeon, and you’ll be able to get a checkup or dental care along with your cosmetic work. This only adds to the convenience of this already quick and easy procedure.
If you’re interested in a more youthful appearance, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with us for a consultation today.
